Petition For Wet/Dry Vote In Hardinsburg Submitted
A petition for a local option election to allow alcohol to be served at some restaurants in the City of Hardinsburg has been submitted to the Breckinridge County Clerk. The petition requests an election be held in Hardinsburg precincts One and Two to determine that alcoholic beverages can be served in restaurants that seat 50 or more patrons, and derives 70% of its income from the sale of food.
County Clerk Jill Irwin says 260 valid signatures are required for a petition to be considered, and the petition presented Wednesday had over 260 signatures. If the clerk determines that the required number of signatures is valid, the petition will be sent to the County Judge Executive for an election date to be set. State statutes require the Judge to act on the petition not earlier than 60 days, or more than 90 days after the valid petition is submitted. State law also requires a special local option election to be held no less than 30 days before or after a regular election.
